Career Development Events
Career Development Events (CDE) are held year-round with the majority held in the spring semester. These events are a true form of authentic assessment of classroom instruction taught in AFNR classes. The focus of these events is career preparation in the diverse arena of agriculture, food and natural resources.
Students compete as a team and individually within the team event confines. CDEs strongly build and reinforce decision making and critical thinking skills within the team members. The team size varies from three to four members.
In the spring semester, the colleges and universities in Texas will sponsor many invitational CDE competitions so that FFA members can hone their skills in preparation for the elimination events that lead to the state and national levels.
Many scholarship opportunities are available to successful team members who choose to extend their competition experiences to the university levels.
As the name implies, CDEs are focused on preparing FFA members for a variety of careers in the diverse world of agriculture.
